1 Nov 2003 Issue No 20
The cheapest by far this year, and possibly this decade! Spice Avenue, right up our street! A belter of a meal for £4.95 including starters, main course, rice/nan, wine and coffee/ice-cream. A quieter do, compared to previous sorties with only 5 of us turning up at the Brown Jug, and the Beardie boys coming to the rescue at the Indian, accompanied by Rob B, who raced at electrifying pace from college to join us. Some say Rob’s preparing his beard for this years Christmas panto, or has he become a beardie boy?
A ‘dry run’ to Brum by the Beardie boys to find the balti triangle for November’s squarrite trip failed, but Bermuda here we come. The do will centre on a canal near the symphony hall. Looks like Beardy has taken a liking to canals since his visit to neck-end. No real ale was tasted and no baltis were consumed. However, we are assured of a memorable evening and an experience of not only one, but two wetherspoons. Date 14th November. Book the afternoon off. The jaunt will begin by train at lunchtime from Stoke station, now reopened, returning around 8ish. Train times are:-depart Stoke 1257 arrive Stafford 1319, depart Stafford 1320 arrive Birmingham 1359. return Birmingham 2018 arrive Stafford 2051 arrive Stoke 2109 OR 2051 2130 2150 OR last one 2151 2225 2247 |
The Venue for the xmas soiree has now been booked for Friday 12th December. With my memory, I hope I don’t forget where it is or else it truly will be a mystery. What I can tell you is that the choice is amazing chucks. Transport costs are £10 max per head. This includes both the coach and the driver’s time whilst they wait for us between the watering holes. Please forward your £10 to me by no later than Friday 14th November to confirm your booking. A 24 seater coach has been booked, commencing at 6pm at the Westbury, for the following who have indicated their intention to attend (Hope I’ve missed no-one!):
In reserve are two more attendees who are still keeping their options open, namely, Nige, (who trips over at Christmas after a sherry) and Keith Jacko (Mr Whicker). |
Itinerary:
a small weatherspoons on route to the canal. Numerous pubs to choose from around the canal. Curry at 6:30 in the 'Celebrity Balti' by the canal. A large weatherspoons nearly
the size of the large one in Manchester. Back to station possibly calling at the smaller weatherspoons again. Return journey.
For those of you who would like to see the full vista of Brum within 5 minutes then take a ride on the big wheel situated adjacent to the symphony hall, which has been imported from Gay Paris.
